Ep 2: Hari Venkatachalam

Meet Hari Venkatachalam as he shares how he blends being Indian, American, Queer, and Hindu. Hear him share the joy he gets from each of these communities and of how he came to be at ease with himself in each of these identities. If you enjoy hearing Hari’s stories, check out Sadhana. It is a coalition of Progressive Hindus that is devoted to encouraging causes of social justice including LGBT and gender equality, racial and economic justice, immigrant rights, and anti-casteism and encourages its members to embrace their diverse identities. I learned a lot from talking with Hari and hope you do too!

Hari was so wonderfully eloquent in talking about the joy he finds in who he is and how he has come to be at ease with himself. As he shared stories about how he shows different parts of himself to the world, verbally and non-verbally, it got me thinking about how I do that for myself.

So I offer you these questions to help you reflect. What are you doing to connect with the power of the cultures and values that shape who you are? What kind of power and agency do you find in yourself as you do that? Where are the missed opportunities?

How are you sharing those cultures and values with others? How much of that is intentional and on-purpose? How is the sharing happening? What is the story you are telling the world by simply being you and showing up every day?
